She really does look small.

LEAKY CRUISE SHIP DETAINED IN NY HARBOR

POST STAFF REPORT

A leaky cruise ship carrying 848 passengers from Iceland is being held in New York Harbor.

A small hole was discovered in the ship's hull during a routine safety inspection. About a gallon of water per hour was coming into the ship, according to the Coast Guard.

Chief Petty Officer Russ Tippets said today that's "a very small amount."

He added that officials expect the damage to be repaired before the ship's scheduled departure for Venezuela tomorrow.

Sheesh. Same thing happened last year with the Peace Boat (Clipper Pacific). Methinks taking the Peace Boat could be a foolhardy thing to do?!?

The continuing saga of the OCEANIC/PEACE BOAT

The New York Daily News today reports:

US Coast Guard divers tried to seal a hairline crack with epoxy bt were unsuccessful.

The OCEANIC will now have to be dry docked in New Jersey for further repairs.

The 848 passengers will go to Atlantic City for 4 days:big grin:

Becky as you posted the PEACE BOAT was stuck in Tampa last year for repairs.

The last Peace Boat before the Oceanic was stuck in NYC last July.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A 637-foot cruise ship carrying approximately 1,200 passengers and crew is being detained in New York Harbor after a routine safety inspection revealed significant hull damage and numerous discrepancies.

Hello

I just run in this website today and start to read about the S/S OCEANIC and remind me of the good old days...I also was on the Oceanic for a long time back on the sixsty, actually 1968 and 1969 I did many cruises from New York to Nassau and on the winner time on most of the islands on the Caribbean at that time I was on my twentys and I was a crew member on the Oceanic ,I'M from Italy and back then most of the crew was Italian I worked on the EGEAN ROOM where they had the shows and bingo ,horse races etc, sure was a nice ship back then and big, but very small compare to todays cruise ships, infact after I left working on the ship it took me about 30 some years before went back on any other ship  (as passenger) and let me tell you is all  another point of view is like( day and night).

Anyway before that Iwas for about 2 years in another ship the S/S AUSTRALIS of the CHANDRIS LINE 1966 -1967  going around the world from UK to S AFRICA ,AUSTRALIA ,NEW ZELAND ,across PACIFIC OCEAN to CALIFORNIA across PANAMA CANAL to FLORIDA and back in UK.

So returning to the story of the OCEANIC on my last few months of working there I meet a very nice passenger close to my age from Pennsylvania  and after date her for one and half year we got marry and after over 40 years still marry with her and reside here in Pennsylvania, so the OCEANIC was very good to me and alyways remember and try special now with the internet looking  for any article or news about the ship,

if any crew members  was on board about that time I will be very nice to hear from....

Just had a flashback.  This visit was also the day Michael Jackson died.  Very weird as the news washed over the city that night.
