Thanks Calmac...Yes that's the Michael Crichton book I was thinking of.

My DS is now 19 but has always been an advanced reader. He read the first Jurassic Park when he was 11 (or was he 10?). I allowed it only because he was mature enough to understand that it was complete fiction. I spent his whole younger teen years trying to find him books that were old enough to hold his attention but did not have major sex scenes.

With that said, he will read anything. When DD 17 and I got into the Twilight series, he read them all to see what the fuss was about and also so that he could get was his girlfriend was talking about. :smiley1:

We have a bit of a struggle to get DS to read but he does get into the Matthew Reilly books.  DH keeps telling me to read them but I keep finding others that I find more appealing.  Travelling to/from work by train again gives me more time each day to read.

The Lee Childs books sound right up his alley! Actually, they all sound great. Maybe I'll buy him the first in each series and let him decide.

Catnip....with DS at 19 years old and having had a girlfriend for the past two years, I'm no longer worried about the sex content...LOL! I only wish that was still a concern.:shootme:

I also read Raymond Khoury and Steve Berry. Those might be something DS would enjoy.

Question to the authors on in what sequence to read the books:

Q.  I want to read all your books in which Pendergast appears. What order should I read them in?
A.  Ideally, Relic, Reliquary, Cabinet of Curiosities, Still Life With Crows, Brimstone, Dance of Death,The Book of the Dead and The Wheel of Darkness.

Q.  What is the 'Diogenes Trilogy'?
A. Three novels that, together, form the story of Agent Pendergast's epic confrontation with his brother, Diogenes. These books, in order, are: Brimstone, Dance of Death and The Book of the Dead.

I'll second that Clive Cussler suggestion, especially his earlier books where he doesn't collaborate with anyone (although those aren't bad either).

I'm now reading The Sign by Raymond Khoury.  It came out in paperback here yesterday but I'm reading a hardback version which we gave to DS as a birthday present in August.  He hasn't read it yet but it's very good.  Another quick read again, I feel, due to the short chapters which are great for reading when travelling by train!

I really enjoyed The Sign - bought and read it in Portugal ! Very fast read indeed :big grin:

Haven't had a lot of time to read these last few days. I did get a gift card to the bookstore. Between that and my 30% discount for being a member of their book club, I was able to buy Dan Brown's new book for $2.00!

At last I've finished The Sign - the holidays have interrupted my reading.  Really enjoyed it.  I've just checked on Amazon and there's no indication when his next book will be released.

I bought the second Michael Bennett book by James Patterson so think I'll read that next.

I spotted "New York" by Edward Rutherfurd in a bookshop on Sunday.  It's still only in hardback which means it's huge so I'll wait until it's out in paperback before I buy it.  I've read most of his other books and they tell a story about a place from as far back as possible, basing advances around characters and their descendants.

From Amazon (UK) - "Edward Rutherfurd tells the story of this great city as no other author could - from the epic, empty grandeur of the New World to the skyscrapers of the City that Never Sleeps, from the intimate detail of lives long forgotten to those lived today at breakneck speed. The novel begins with a tiny Indian fishing village and the Dutch traders who first carved out their hopes amidst the splendour of the wilderness. The British settlers and merchants followed, with their aristocratic governors and unpopular taxation which led to rebellion, war, the burning of the city and the birth of the American Nation. Yet a country that had already rent itself asunder once did so again over slavery. As the country fought its bloody Civil War, the city was torn apart by deadly riots. Hopes and dreams, greed and corruption - they have always been the companions of freedom and opportunity in the city's teeming streets. As the immigrant ships berthed next to Ellis Island in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, they poured more and more Germans, Irish, Italians and Jews into the churning ethnic mix of the city. Deals were struck, politicians corrupted, men bought or assassinated, heiresses wooed, fortunes were speculated on Wall Street and men became rich beyond the dreams of avarice. The heady seesaw of wealth and poverty was seen in the Roaring Twenties and the Great Crash, the city's future symbolised by its buildings which literally touched the sky: the Empire State, the Chrysler Building, the Twin Towers. Rutherfurd tells this irresistible story through a cast of fictional and true characters whose fates interweave in the rise and fall, fall and rise of the city's fortunes. It is the story of how in four centuries New York became the envy of the world. And in telling the story through the lens of New York, Rutherfurd brings the story of America itself to unforgettable life in this epic masterpiece."

I saw that a couple of weeks ago and wanted to read it.  I've requested it at our local library, so I hope I don't have to wait too long to get it!

I now think I'll just buy it so that I can read it before we go to New York at the end of the Epic TA.  If his London book is anything to go by there will be places the book will make me want to visit which I might otherwise miss.

Anyone read Nelson DeMille's John Corey series .... these are best read in order.  John Corey is a former NYPD homicide dective, a bit off color, non-conformant and a real comedian.  I enjoyed all of these John Corey gave me more than a few laughs.

Plum Island

Lion's Game

Night Fall

capN,
Have you tried any of Ted Bell's books (his Alexander Hawke series)?  I just discovered them a few months ago and really like them!  They are also best read in order, but it's not totally necessary.

I'm still working on Cussler's Dragon. Sahara finally arrived about 5 days ago, so I can stop taking my time finishing Dragon. ;) Only about 20 pages to go. When last I left Dirk Pitt he was stranded in an avalanche on the bottom of the ocean.

Yup, but you're the one who told me to go ahead and read the book, too. It took 2-3 weeks to get the book. :shoot me:
