I booked a guarantee inside for our 4/19 TA cruise on the Gem. They just dropped the prices alot . I know I cannot get any money back or credit but I tried to upgrade to a balcony and pay the difference but was advised by my ta that they won't allow it as it has to be a new booking only for that price. This I don't understand. Why would they be unwilling to do this to a loyal NCL customer?:(

I think they're pretty strict on the new bookings rule.  They're trying to sell cabins and unfortunately it only applies to customers without a reservation in place.  At least that's my understanding.

You should be able to get the new rates for the balcony. I have never gotten no for an answer whe nI was giving NCL more money even if it is a small amount. I was able to take advantage for 4 changes on the Gem. It seemed half the people on the roll call were abel to get the new rates and half got the new booking story.  I ended up upgrading to a AB Penthouse from my AF when the "New gooking only" fare for the AB dropped $2000.

As far as I am concerned booking a higher cabin at additrtional cost is a new booking. Many of the reps at CL will see it the other way. You Ta has to go to bat and find the right rep who will "rerate" the booking.

When the AB dropped I called NCL Latitudes line since my PCC was out and got the new booking story and it was going to cost me 1000s more. Next morning my PCC rebooked me in 5 minutes at the special fare.

Don't give up it can be done. It is all about who you or your TA talk to.

I called NCL myself today and was told that my booking was at a group rate. I said I only booked my cabin and my friends, that we were not a group but apparantely Direct line cruises who I booked with buys a group of cabins thereby getting a group rate.  When I said I had no idea and that I was willing to pay more the CS rep said no way would I be able to upgrade.

The ta at DLC told me she spoke to two people and the last one said I should try at the pier to see if I could upgrade there.

Jim, where do you think I should go from here?

Thanks, Kit

Your screwed :big grin: Locked into a group rate that was great at the time . My advice stop looking at the prices. You got a good deal when you booked enjoy the cruise. Rule number 7 never ask what the person in the next cabin on a ship or seat on a plane paided. I flew to London on business in a middle seat we paid $1600 to be between two folks who paid $199.

Thanks Jim I'll take your advice.  I usually don't look once I book anything for precisely this reason, now I know I will never do it again.

Shoreguy, could there have been a different outcome if the booking was direct with NCL?  I'm asking in advance of other cruises and not trying to stir things up. ;)
